Synopsis
The film, Mata, is based on a real-life journey undertaken by Santhosh Davangere in 2011, in which he travelled across Karnataka visiting mutts. Over 597 days of travelling, he visited over 5,000 villages, towns and cities, and collected extensive information about them. During this journey, Davangere learned about the greatness of several mutts, the internal struggles of some, the selfishness of a few, the selfless services of others, the godliness of some swamijis, and the misdeeds of a few. Based on all his travels and research, Davangere wrote a 25-volume book, Mata Margadarshana, which the film is based on.

Director
A writer by profession, Ravindra Venshi is also known as a film critic. He watched 2,600 Kannada films to compile a book of outstanding works, 101 Kannada Films You Must See Before You Die. “As a writer, he has left a mark on books including classu massu beda gelaya nantige hesaru, kesha kattarisikolluva pari and others. The undergraduate graduate made his directorial debut with Putani safari. Vasanti nalidaga, varnamaya, mata, night curfew, films directed by Ravindra Venshi, mata is a special film, he spent more than a year just researching this film.
