Qinawi, a physically challenged peddler who makes his living selling newspapers in the central Cairo train station, is obsessed with Hanuma, an attractive young woman who sells drinks. While she jokes with him about a possible relationship, she is actually in love with Abu Siri, a strong and respected porter at the station who is struggling to unionize his fellow workers to combat their boss’ exploitative and abusive treatment.

ಕೈರೋ ಕೇಂದ್ರ ರೈಲು ನಿಲ್ದಾಣದಲ್ಲಿ ದಿನಪತ್ರಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾರಿ ಜೀವನ ಸಾಗಿಸುವ ವಿಕಲಚೇತನ ವ್ಯಾಪಾರಿ ಕಿನಾವಿಗೆ, ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಪಾನೀಯಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾರುವ ಹನುಮಾ ಎಂಬ ಸುಂದರ ಯುವತಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಅತೀವ ವ್ಯಾಮೋಹ. ಹನುಮಾ ಕಿನಾವಿಯ ಜೊತೆ ಸಂಬಂಧದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ತಮಾಷೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರೂ, ಅವಳು ಮಾತ್ರ ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಶಕ್ತಿಯುತ ಮತ್ತು ಗೌರವಾನ್ವಿತ ಕೂಲಿಯಾದ ಅಬು ಸಿರಿ ಎಂಬಾತನನ್ನು ಪ್ರೀತಿಸುತ್ತಿರುತ್ತಾಳೆ. ಅತ್ತ ಅಬು ಸಿರಿ, ತನ್ನ ಸಹೋದ್ಯೋಗಿಗಳನ್ನು ಶೋಷಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ಮಾಲೀಕನ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ಹೋರಾಡಲು ಕೂಲಿ ಕಾರ್ಮಿಕರ ಸಂಘವನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟುವ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನದಲ್ಲಿರುತ್ತಾನೆ.

Youssef Chahine (1926–2008, Alexandria) was an Egyptian filmmaker and one of the most influential figures in Arab cinema. He studied at Victoria College, Alexandria University, and trained in theatre and television at the Pasadena Playhouse. His filmography includes BABA AMIN (1950), CAIRO STATION (1958), SALADIN (1963), THE LAND (1969), THE SPARROW (1972), ALEXANDRIA… WHY? (1978) and THE BLUE CAFTAN (2022). His work blends history, politics and autobiography with bold formal experimentation. His awards include the Silver Bear, Golden Tanit, a Cannes Lifetime Achievement Award and the French Legion of Honor.
