Deep in a forest, Kariyappa, an old man, lives in harmony with the wilderness that has been his home for decades. His days are quiet with the jungle. He is a man forgotten by time. But when a project threatens to cut through the forest for legal reasons, officials arrive to convince or force Kariyappa to leave. What begins as a procedural eviction spiral into a complex psychological and moral conflict. The forest, almost a character itself, becomes a battleground between modernity and memory. The film explores how nature heals. By the time the final decision must be made another twist happens which no one ever expected.

ಕಾಡಿನ ಆಳದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂಟಿಯಾಗಿ ಬದುಕುತ್ತಿರುವ ವೃದ್ಧ ಕರಿಯಪ್ಪನು ದಶಕಗಳಿಂದ ಅರಣ್ಯದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಸಾಮರಸ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಜೀವನ ನಡೆಸುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಆದರೆ ಕಾನೂನು ಕಾರಣಗಳಿಂದ ಕಾಡು ಕಡಿತಗೊಳಿಸುವ ಯೋಜನೆ ಅವನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆ ಭಾರಿ ಬೆದರಿಕೆಯಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಅವನನ್ನು ಸ್ಥಳಾಂತರಿಸಲು ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳು ಬಂದಾಗ, ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿ ಮಾನಸಿಕ ಮತ್ತು ನೈತಿಕ ಸಂಘರ್ಷವಾಗಿ ರೂಪುಗೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತದೆ. ಆಧುನಿಕತೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸ್ಮರಣೆಯ ನಡುವೆ ಸಿಲುಕಿದ ಈ ಕಥೆ, ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಯ ಗುಣಪಡಿಸುವ ಶಕ್ತಿ ಮತ್ತು ವೃದ್ಧನ ಶಾಂತ ಪ್ರತಿರೋಧವನ್ನು ಆಳವಾಗಿ ಅನಾವರಣಗೊಳಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

Badiger Devendra is a Kannada screen writer, director based in Bangalore. He made his directorial debut in 2019 with the film RUDRI, which received several awards across the world. His second feature film IN, which explored the mental trauma caused by the COVID 19 pandemic got him the Best film special jury mention at BIFFes in 2023. His latest work, the film VANYA, is currently making the rounds of the festival circuit.
