In a hill town in Uttarakhand, where men leave to fight in the Kargil War, an old folklore speaks of a snake awaiting a promised bride. As the war unfolds, Barkha, a schoolteacher whose husband is away, grows restless with her life. The arrival of Manik Guho, an engineer and writer, unsettles the town, coinciding with strange sightings and quiet emotional awakenings among the women left behind. As desire, longing, and courage surface, the women move toward a mysterious river, seeking release, voice, and freedom.

ಉತ್ತರಾಖಂಡದ ಆ ಬೆಟ್ಟದ ಊರಿನ ಪುರುಷರೆಲ್ಲ ಕಾರ್ಗಿಲ್ ಯುದ್ಧಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಗಡಿಗೆ ತೆರಳಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಹಳೆಯ ನಂಬಿಕೆಯೊಂದರ ಪ್ರಕಾರ, ತನಗಾಗಿ ನಿಶ್ಚಿತವಾದ ವಧುವಿಗಾಗಿ ಒಂದು ಸರ್ಪ ಕಾದು ಕುಳಿತಿರುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬ ಜಾನಪದ ಕಥೆಯಿದೆ. ಯುದ್ಧದ ಆತಂಕದ ನಡುವೆ, ತನ್ನ ಪತಿಯ ನೆನಪಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬಳಲುತ್ತಿರುವ ಶಾಲಾ ಶಿಕ್ಷಕಿ ಬರ್ಖಾಳಿಗೆ ತನ್ನ ಏಕತಾನತೆಯ ಬದುಕು ಅತಂತ್ರ ಎನಿಸತೊಡಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದೇ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾಣಿಕ್ ಗುಹೋ ಎಂಬ ಎಂಜಿನಿಯರ್ ಹಾಗೂ ಲೇಖಕನ ಆಗಮನ ಇಡೀ ಊರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಚಲನ ಮೂಡಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಅದೇ ಹೊತ್ತಿಗೆ ಊರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಚಿತ್ರ ದೃಶ್ಯಗಳು ಕಾಣಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತವೆ ಮತ್ತು ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಉಳಿದಿರುವ ಮಹಿಳೆಯರಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊಸ ಭಾವನೆಗಳು ಚಿಗುರೊಡೆಯುತ್ತವೆ. ತಮ್ಮೊಳಗಿನ ಆಸೆ, ವಿರಹ ಮತ್ತು ಧೈರ್ಯವನ್ನು ಕಂಡುಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಆ ಮಹಿಳೆಯರು, ಕೊನೆಗೆ ತಮ್ಮ ನೋವುಗಳಿಂದ ಮುಕ್ತಿ ಪಡೆಯಲು ಮತ್ತು ತಮ್ಮದೇ ಆದ ಧ್ವನಿಯನ್ನು ಹುಡುಕಲು ಆ ನಿಗೂಢ ನದಿಯತ್ತ ಹೆಜ್ಜೆ ಹಾಕುತ್ತಾರೆ.

Nidhi Saxena is an Indian filmmaker who studied sculpture and fine arts before training in cinema at the Film and Television Institute of India. Her work spans independent filmmaking, visual art and literature. Her filmography includes SAD LETTERS OF AN IMAGINARY WOMAN, which premiered at Busan in 2024, and SECRET OF A MOUNTAIN SERPENT, developed at Biennale College Cinema and set to premiere in 2025. Her films explore vulnerability, abstraction and spiritual experience through a meditative cinematic language. She has received grants from the Asian Cinema Fund and Biennale College Cinema.
