THE HOURGLASS SANATORIUM SANATORIUM POD KLEPSYDRĄ WOJCIECH JERZY HAS

While visiting his father at a dilapidated sanatorium, Joseph discovers that the old man has stopped breathing but hasn’t died. Has his arrival halted time itself? He takes a strange journey through the many rooms of the hospital, each conjuring worlds composed of memories, dreams and nightmares.

Wojciech Jerzy Has (1925-2000, Kraków) was a master of visionary cinema. He studied at the Kraków Business and Commerce College and the Academy of Fine Arts during the Nazi occupation, later completing a film course in 1946. Over four decades, he directed 14 features, including THE NOOSE (1958), THE SARAGOSSA MANUSCRIPT (1964), and THE DOLL (1968). A "silent rebel," he avoided political realism for surrealist "poetics of memory." He received the Cannes Jury Prize (1973), the FIPRESCI Prize (1959), and served as the Rector of the Łódź Film School (1990–1996).
