CALLE MÁLAGA MARYAM TOUZANI

Maria Angeles, a 79-year-old Spanish woman, lives alone in Tangier, Morocco, and enjoys her daily routine. However, her life is turned upside down when her daughter arrives from Madrid to sell the apartment in which she has always lived. Determined to stay, she does everything she can to get her home and her belongings back and, unexpectedly, rediscovers love and sensuality.

Maryam Touzani (b. 1980) is a Moroccan writer and director born in Tangier who has collaborated closely with Nabil Ayouch. Her filmography includes ADAM (2019), selected for Un Certain Regard at Cannes and Morocco’s Academy Awards submission, and THE BLUE CAFTAN (2022), also selected at Cannes and shortlisted for the Oscars. Her work explores intimacy, identity and social change with emotional restraint. Her awards include more than sixty international prizes for THE BLUE CAFTAN (2022) and jury membership at Cannes in 2023.
