A portrait of Elfriede Jelinek, the provocative Austrian writer who became the country’s first Nobel Laureate in Literature in 2004. Drawing on archive footage, interviews, and voiceovers, the film unfolds from Jelinek’s own perspective, tracing her radical relationship with language. Rebel, feminist, communist, enfant terrible and uncompromising artist, Jelinek emerges as a figure who weaponised words to confront power, patriarchy, and national mythmaking. The film captures her brilliance and vulnerability, revealing how language itself becomes her primary site of resistance and creation.

Claudia Müller (b. 1964, Germany) is a Berlin-based documentary filmmaker known for incisive film portraits of international women artists. Trained in German Literature, Journalism, and Arts in Berlin and Cologne, she has worked with Peter Greenaway and Krzysztof Zanussi. An independent director since 1991, she founded PHLOX Films in 2007. Her films include JENNY HOLZER (2009), CINDY SHERMAN (2009), SHIRIN NESHAT (2010), KIKI SMITH (2014), and ELFRIEDE JELINEK: LANGUAGE UNLEASHED (2022), engaging deeply with art, gender, and visibility.
