Gaman follows Ghulam Hasan, a young man from Lucknow who migrates to Bombay to support his family, leaving behind his sick mother and devoted wife, Khairun. Working as a taxi driver, he faces exploitation, poverty, and isolation in the city’s slums, sustained only by letters home and fragile friendships with other migrants. As his hopes fade and losses mount, including his mother’s death, Ghulam is pushed toward despair and self-destruction, revealing a city that deepens rather than relieves rural hardship.

"ಗಮನ್" ಚಿತ್ರವು ಲಕ್ನೋದ ಗುಲಾಮ್ ಹಸನ್ ಎಂಬ ಯುವಕನ ಕಥೆಯನ್ನು ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ. ತನ್ನ ಅನಾರೋಗ್ಯ ಪೀಡಿತ ತಾಯಿ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರೀತಿಯ ಪತ್ನಿ ಖೈರುನ್ ಅವರನ್ನು ಊರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬಿಟ್ಟು, ಕುಟುಂಬವನ್ನು ಸಾಕಿ ಸಲಹಲು ಆತ ಬದುಕು ಹುಡುಕುತ್ತಾ ಬಾಂಬೆಗೆ ವಲಸೆ ಬರುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಟ್ಯಾಕ್ಸಿ ಡ್ರೈವರ್ ಆಗಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುವ ಆತ ಶೋಷಣೆ, ಬಡತನ ಮತ್ತು ಮುಂಬೈನ ಕೊಳಚೆ ಪ್ರದೇಶದ ಏಕಾಂತದ ನಡುವೆ ಸಿಲುಕುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಆತನಿಗೆ ಊರಿನಿಂದ ಬರುವ ಪತ್ರಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ತನ್ನಂತೆಯೇ ವಲಸೆ ಬಂದ ಇತರ ಸ್ನೇಹಿತರ ಅಲ್ಪಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಒಡನಾಟವೇ ಬದುಕಿಗೆ ಏಕೈಕ ಆಧಾರವಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಆದರೆ ದಿನ ಕಳೆದಂತೆ ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೆಗಳು ಕಮರಿ ಹೋಗುತ್ತವೆ; ಅತ್ತ ಊರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ತಾಯಿ ಕೂಡ ಮರಣ ಹೊಂದುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಈ ಸಾಲು ಸಾಲು ನಷ್ಟಗಳು ಆತನನ್ನು ಹತಾಶೆಯ ಕೂಪಕ್ಕೆ ತಳ್ಳುತ್ತವೆ. ಹಳ್ಳಿಯ ಬಡತನವನ್ನು ನೀಗಿಸುವ ಬದಲು, ನಗರವು ಬದುಕನ್ನು ಹೇಗೆ ಮತ್ತಷ್ಟು ನರಕವಾಗಿಸುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಈ ಸಿನಿಮಾ ಕಣ್ಣಿಗೆ ಕಟ್ಟುವಂತೆ ವಿವರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
