"Erke Dzhumakmatova (b. 1978) and Emil Atageldiev (1976–2024) formed a powerful creative partnership in Kyrgyz cinema, blending artistic experimentation with social realism through their OYMO Studio. They co-directed experimental feature BEYOND/Po tu storonu (2013) and gained international recognition with THE LAKE (2020), which premiered at Shanghai IFF. Dzhumakmatova chairs the Kyrgyz Association of Film Producers and coordinates CAF Pitch at Bishkek IFF. KURAK is their final film together."
