Filmmakers Ibrahim, Suliman, Eltayeb, and Manar are longtime friends who left Sudan in the 1960s and 1970s to study cinema abroad. Years later, after lives shaped by exile and distance, they reunite through the Sudanese Film Group, founded in 1989. Bound by a shared passion and unfinished dreams, they return home with a single goal: to revive cinema in Sudan. Their plan is to reopen the long-abandoned Halfaia Cinema in Khartoum, transforming a crumbling theater into a symbol of cultural renewal, memory, and resistance through film.

Suhaib Gasmelbari was born in Sudan in 1979. He studied film at Université Paris 8 and later worked as a freelance cameraman and editor for Al Qarra, Al Jazeera, and France 24. Alongside journalism, he has written and directed several short fiction films and documentaries. His short film ODA NAGAM (ODE TO MY FEET) was released in 2012. His first feature-length documentary, TALKING ABOUT TREES, reflects his deep engagement with Sudanese cinema history. During archival research, he helped rediscover lost films and contributed to projects preserving and digitising Sudan’s audiovisual heritage.
