Believed to be the first film ever made in Guinea, MOURAMANI becomes the starting point for filmmaker Thierno Souleymane Diallo’s personal investigation into the country’s cinematic past. Curious about the film’s production and the fate of its missing print, he travels across Guinea, meeting archivists and witnesses who remember the era. Filming his own journey—on foot, barefoot, or riding a donkey—Diallo documents everyday life alongside forgotten cinema halls and neglected archives. Blending observation, performance, and re-enactment, the film unfolds as a layered road journey through a nation once central to African cinema, now slowly reconnecting with its cultural memory.

Thierno Souleymane Diallo was born in Guinea and studied at ISAG in Dubréka before pursuing a master’s degree in creative documentary in Niger and completing a diploma in documentary cinema in Senegal. He made several short films during his training and directed his first television documentary, UN HOMME POUR MA FAMILLE, produced by JPL Productions, followed by the 51-minute documentary NO METI SIFADHE. Alongside his filmmaking, he works with Guinean public television. His latest documentary, THE CEMETERY OF CINEMA (2023), premiered at the Berlinale.
